Gail Catherine Blevins

November 2, 2021

Gail Blevins, beloved wife and mother of five, passed surrounded by her husband Wilburn David Blevins and oldest daughter Gail Petry on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021, at Boulder Community Health Foothills, Boulder, Colorado after a long battle with Dementia. She was 81 years old.

A lifelong voracious reader and seeker of truth and knowledge who on average would read a book a day and could speak on many subjects and loved to share what she learned with others, Gail was born Gail Catherine Harnett on April 30th, 1940 in Brooklyn New York, to parents Madalyn and Robert Harnett where she lived until she was 14 while going to an all-girl high school where she made friends easily. The family moved to Hicksville, Long Island where she got her first job as a salesgirl at the local mall. There at 21, she met her first husband Albert John Petry a lifelong marine and together had her first two children Gail and Terence Petry. Three years later she met her second husband and had three children; James, Robert and Amy DeLorimier who lived in Long Island, Upstate NY and Connecticut. Gail married Wilburn Blevins in 1987 whom she met at (PWP) parents without partners; he had two children Dusty Jean and Wilburn David II. She loved travelling the world with Will who worked globally for Ball Corporation, except if mountains were involved as she had a deep fear of them. She would often make Will find another route if at all possible. Together they travelled through several continents and many countries collecting clothes, tchotchkes and local items like Manuka honey from Australia and vanilla from Mexico, but the best part of it all were the memories and stories she shared along the way. She was a consummate storyteller who loved people and their stories. She taught English to children in Taiwan just so she could learn more about the culture and its people, they adored her and she loved them. She never smoked, rarely drank except for the occasional Pina Colada or Baileys, and only ate organic foods with a strong passion for health, healing and spirituality. She was passionate about truth and tried in vain to wake people up, hoping the seeds she planted would one day create transformation. She loved music, loved to dance and typically took over a room when she hit the dance floor. Her favorite TV show was Dancing with the Stars where she would almost always be inspired to get up and dance along with them on the living room floor, even shortly before her passing. She loved dressing up and couldn’t wait for a party to show off her latest outfit which was always perfectly matched.

In her later years as reading became more difficult, Gail found peace and tranquility in painting which quickly became her new passion. She painted glass vases and everything wooden she could find that Michaels offered. She loved colors and that was the foundation of all she created. As her health became more challenging, she switched to coloring books with the same voracity that she read books and painted her treasures, eventually filling hundreds of them cover to cover. Her favorite saying was, ‘That’s my story and I’m sticking to it’. And indeed, she did.

She is mourned by her five children, Gail and Terrence Petry, James, Robert and Amy DeLorimier, and her stepchildren Wilburn David Blevins II and Dusty Jean Fries as well as her beautiful grandchildren Sean Petry, Jacqueline DeLorimier, Aila and Amalea DeLorimier and Hank and Lance Fries. She is also survived by her sister Anne Harnett.
