Doug Harmon

October 5, 1949 - November 27, 2021

Doug Harmon ended his journey the afternoon of Saturday, Nov 27th. The love of his life, together for 56 years, was by his side until the end. While we are grieving we know that his soul can rest and not suffer in his worldly body.

Doug was a lover of many things including great music, nature, and spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren.

Sunday family dinners were a highlight for his three children and their significant others. Spending the entire day listening to music (Beggars Banquet is the first to come to mind), cooking or grilling, and general absurdity that made everyone laugh til their cheeks hurt. As the stoic father figure, he chuckled a few times and managed to get in some smart quips, but was always amused by the Harmon nonsense.

He rejoiced in spending time with his grandchildren and they gave him life. He was their ‘Abu’ and he wore that name with such joy. His patience, comfort, and love of tinkering on projects will forever be missed by those sweet little souls.

He was an avid bird dork and was always on the lookout for his favorite birds the Swainson’s Hawk and the Green Heron. He solidly beat his son in an epic Colorado Big Year competition and both had fond memories of the spring migration count on the Platte.

His whole life was spent camping in the great Colorado outdoors. Some of his favorite memories were sitting around the campfire with his loved friends and family and jeeping in, “Jessie the Jeep”, with his soulmate.

Doug spent his later life with his hands in the dirt and even became a Master Gardener. He spent many hours volunteering in gardens and creating his own nature wonderland at his house. There wasn’t a plant he couldn’t identify or a house plant he couldn’t save.

Whether it is seeing a hawk soar high, a columbine show it’s vibrant color in a mountain meadow, a well timed classic rock/blues song, or a perfectly imperfect home grown tomato we know that while Doug’s physical presence has left he will always be with us.

A celebration of life will happen in the spring/summer of 2022 when we can celebrate in the warmth and life of a new season.
