Jim ‘Jimbo’ Eskenberry
July 30, 1929 - March 31, 2022
James “Jimbo” Eskenberry, aged 92, passed away in his home in Thornton, Colorado on March 31, 2022. Born in Superior, Wyoming to parents Mary and Frank Eskenberry, he was one of 6 siblings including his twin brother, Tommy. Jimbo grew up in Fairfax, California where he attended Tamalpais High School and was a star athlete in three sports, later earning him a spot in the Tamalpais Hall of Fame in 2015. After high school he signed with the Yankees on minor league team in Twin Falls, Idaho. He said of that time, that he played baseball 24 hours a day and it was heaven for him, he loved it. At his first spring training, he pitched three innings against the Angels and gave up just one run. He was a notorious goofball and in addition to the nickname Jimbo, he also acquired a few additional nicknames during his time in baseball including Gentleman Jim and Esky. Unfortunately, his career in baseball ended early due to an injury, and he joined the Army and served in the Korean War as a tank driver. After the war, he returned home and his fun-loving personality brought him success in insurance sales.
While Jimbo’s first love was baseball, second only to Golf and he played every chance he got. After he retired from insurance sales, he worked in a pro shop and marshaled at the golf course so he could always be immersed in the game. He loved to razz people and was always singing (or whistling) a song. He was a talented artist and liked to pencil sketch wildlife scenes and colored incessantly in his later years. He was the biggest presence in any room, both by way of his sparkling personality and physically with his perfectly quaffed silver hair and always wearing his signature color, red. Or as he would say, REEEEEEEEED! He is survived by his wife of 55 years (Dolores), two children (Joni and Bobby), three granddaughters (Birdie, Nicole and Amanda), one sister (Rose Marie), dog (Annie) and many nieces and nephews. He is loved deeply and will be missed everyday.
