Dan Doane Barker

Dan Doane Barker passed this week at age 65. Dan was born in Texas to Dan and Joanne Barker. He and his sister, Lynn moved to Colorado when he was in grade school. They lived in Evergreen, where he developed a deep love of the mountains.

He graduated from Evergreen High School and received a BA in Philosophy with a minor in Religious Studies from Colorado State University.

It was during his studies at CSU that he met his wife of 45 years, Jacki Kennedy. He demonstrated his love toward her each and every day and was by far the most romantic human-being ever to live. He was a loving partner and caring friend throughout their marriage.

He spent time in his life as a journalist, an author and a teacher. He would have considered the most important job raising his two daughters and his time assisting in raising his grandchildren. He loved with all his heart.

Dan was an amazing father and grandfather, who dedicated much of his life to the children of the family. He loved reading and comic books, learning about all religions, cats and dogs, science fiction, good cigars and Orange Juliuses. He enjoyed seeing live music with his wife and Marvel movies with his grandchildren. He was a solid, peaceful foundation for his family; full of amusing jokes or a Taoist quote to help you through a troubled time.

He was preceeded in death by his mother, Joanne, and father, Dan. He is survived by his wife, Jacki; his daughters Terra Kennedy-Meairs (Dakoda) and Rana Farber Kennedy (Michael); his grandchildren (Terra and Dakoda) Kai, Dakoda Jr, Rowan, Dublin and Scarlett and future grandchild (Rana and Michael), due in the fall.
