Robert Marion Dow
October 12, 1953 ~ June 21, 2023
Robert Marion Dow, described by all who knew him as warm, compassionate, and inspiring, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2023 due to complications from chest radiation therapy he received in his 30’s. He was surrounded by his wife and 3 children.
Rob was born in Wichita, Kansas on October 12, 1953, and lived there until his family relocated to Collinsville, Illinois. He graduated from Collinsville High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Central Arkansas.
Nancy Jean Dennington and Robert Dow were married on August 18, 1973. Their first son Eric was born in August 1976 followed three years later by Nathan in August 1979. While growing his young family Rob was treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Upon completion of treatment, and with the blessing of his doctor, Rob and Nancy welcomed their daughter Caley in February 1987.
Rob enjoyed many accomplishments in his career as a software engineer that spanned six decades, but it was clear that his passion came in teaching and helping others. Rob thrived when enriching the lives of those around him, be it through coaching youth sports, sharing the beauty of nature (on earth and in the skies above) or mentoring colleagues new and old. He made time to be present and supportive for each and every person who entered his life, and he strived to make each interaction full of purpose and lasting knowledge. He will be profoundly missed by his wife, children, parents, brothers, sister, family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rob’s honor to The Nature Conservancy, Denver Dumb Friends League, The Human Rights Campaign, or simply enjoy a meal with family and friends supporting a local restaurant and raise a toast to him.
