Carl Edwin Richard

February 2, 1959 - February 10, 2024

Carl Edwin Richard grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of 4 children.  From the beginning he was active, playful, bright, and spirited.   A bout of spinal meningitis left Carl with profound hearing loss. Perhaps because of his deafness, he became a keen observer of people and the natural world.  He loved animals, kept back-yard pets, collected elephant figures, excelled at ice hockey and played for the Junior Allstar team.

Carl earned a bachelors degree in Land Management from the University of Colorado at Boulder; his attention to detail led to many successful years as a professional Landman, securing mineral rights and managing the construction of cell phone towers. He volunteered for a number of local organizations including Big Brothers and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC).

A lifelong extrovert, Carl was loyal to friends around the world, who appreciated his sense of adventure, his enjoyment of novelty, and his ready laughter. He left behind extensive collections of bottle openers, water bottles, and baseball caps, souvenirs of great times with good friends.  Carl was an enthusiastic sports fan, attending games and rooting for the St. Louis Blues, the Denver Broncos, and the University of Colorado Buffalos (especially when they were winning).    Everyone agrees he never missed the opportunity for a good party, true to the message on his custom plates:  “I’m 4 fun.”

Carl died of sudden cardiac arrest at his Denver condominium.  He is survived by his siblings, Susan Sugarman, Judith Schiff, and Benjamin Richard, by 7 nieces and a wide circle of loving friends.
