George Michael (Mick) Lederle
March 19, 1937 - June 7, 2024
George Lederle, of Boulder, loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, died at home after a 4 year battle with dementia. He, his sense of humor, and loving support will be greatly missed.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Ferdinand and Grace Lederle, George attended Brooklyn Prep HS and upon graduation began his lengthy college education, earning the following degrees:
Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Cum Laude, University of Detroit
Master of Science, Mathematics, University of Michigan
Master of Science in Engineering, Chemical Engineering, University of Michigan
While completing his doctorate he worked for GE in Schenectady and earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
George (“Mick”) met his wife Jane in 1963 and married in 1964 while completing his Masters degrees at the University of Michigan. In 1968, Mick began interviewing for the next stage of his career with several companies around the US, one of which was IBM in Boulder, CO. Upon taking in the view of Boulder while driving over the hill on US 36, Jane looked at Mick and said, “I’m home”. They would go no further, built their home, and remained in Boulder ever since. Together, they raised and put 5 children through college. Following his time with IBM, Mick would go on to work with Loral and Lockheed Martin. In his spare time and upon retirement, he enjoyed his family, their grandchildren, extended family and friends while pursuing several interests including fly fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing, reading, camping, hiking, tending to the many trees on their properties and smoking cigars. George also spent time volunteering with St. Thomas Aquinas’ Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, socializing Guide Dogs For The Blind, tutoring math students at Front Range Community College, trout studies with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, leading troops in what was known as Indian Guides, and coaching/refereeing with Boulder Junior Soccer.
During the last year of his illness George was able to be home because of the care he received from four wonderful caretakers. A heartfelt thanks to Dawa, Mark, Debbie, and Elaine.
George is survived by his wife, Beverly (Jane) Lederle, and children - Michael, Matthew, Ryan, Suzanne, Kathryn, his 7 grandchildren – Maryn, Keira and Jace Lederle, Everett and Ada Height, Sloane and Waylon Harbine, his brother Donald Lederle of Boulder, Colorado and sister Barbara Derbes, of Houston, TX.
