Darrell Thomas
September 7, 1934 - June 8, 2024
Born in Polk County, Iowa , Darrell moved with his parents, Parker and Velma Thomas, to Northwest Iowa to a farm near Royal, Iowa . After graduating from Royal High School, he entered the construction field learning every trade; from foundations to cabinet making and completing many custom houses around Spencer, Iowa. In 1971 he moved to Frisco, Colorado and became the manager of a new lumber yard as it was the beginning of most of the ski areas in Summit county. He ended his career as the maintenance director of Copper Mountain ski area for 28 years. Changing gears after retiring at age 84 he moved to a high rise condo building behind the Union station in Downtown Denver. He liked walking all along the river and seeing all the new buildings being built downtown and made friends with any body he came across.
Darrell loved traveling and saw many great parts of Europe, Australia , Greece, Mexico and Central America and the Southwestern US
He is survived by his wife Maxine, they were married 69 years; His sons Jeffrey (Carleen) Thomas of Windsor, CO, two grand
daughters Brianna and Danielle (Nathaniel Stein) in Nashville TN . Son Rodney (Heidi) Thomas of Littleton and grandsons Shane (Shanell) and Great Grandson, Bentley of Bailey, CO and Cole (Megan) of Denver; His sisters Joy from Leclair, Carolyn of Graettinger, IA. Brother Roland Thomas in Spencer, IA and many nieces and nephews
I am sure he is making sawdust in heaven as like Jesus he was a carpenter and loved making furniture and toys for the grand children and the houses he built for he and Maxine.
