About the Role
We are seeking someone who is prepared to embody our values on a daily basis and who is committed to serving families and their loved ones.
The Be a Tree Cremation team is small, resourceful, and supportive. Communication and respect are at the core of how we work together.
We are seeking one full-time Operator / Arrangement Specialist. The role will require on-call hours for up to two weeks out of the month (with additional on-call pay) and reliable transportation within an hour of Be a Tree Cremation.
Experience working in a crematory or funeral home is preferred but not required.
The position includes paid time off and flexible working arrangements. Compensation starts at $20 per hour plus on-call pay.
Requirements:
Licensed Funeral Director who graduated from an accredited mortuary school
Ability to clearly communicate with team members and families
Genuine interest in green end-of-life options and a desire to support families through difficult loss
Proficiency using Zoom, Google Docs, and other basic web-based applications (training provided)
Strong attention to detail
1-2 years of experience in a crematory or funeral home setting
Ability to be on call for up two weeks of the month (on-call pay provided)
Ability to safely lift at least 100 lbs
Valid driver’s license
Specific duties:
Maintaining accurate paperwork and forms in accordance with all laws and procedures including chain of custody documentation, logs, etc.
Ensure facilities and equipment are maintained, cleaned, and functioning properly
Take first calls and coordinate removal and transportation of decedents
Meet with families in person and over Zoom to complete arrangements and paperwork
Assist with filing of death certificates in accordance with state law
Basic preparation of decedents for viewings or witness cremations
Receive remains at our facility
Oversee the safe operation of the alkaline hydrolysis system (training for the equipment will be provided) and perform cremations
Process remains and prepare for placement in temporary or permanent containers
Communicate with families and prepare invoices and agreements
Understand and comply with all OSHA and EPA guidelines
Discharge and track effluent byproduct in a safe and consistent manner
Perform various community outreach activities as assigned
