Water Cremation Soil & Fertilizer Intern

Be part of a unique and growing business in a pioneering industry like no other. Be a Tree Cremation provides water cremation (alkaline hydrolysis) for people in Colorado and beyond. Alkaline hydrolysis uses water and alkali to mimic natural decomposition, gently breaking down the bodies' soft tissue and leaving only skeletal remains. The liquid byproduct is a sterile solution that acts as an organic fertilizer. This fertilizer is applied directly to the soil across various Colorado landscapes including wildlife conservation and rehabilitation areas. Our two goals are to help people live on through nature after they die and to reduce the growing and damaging carbon footprint of the funeral industry.

We are seeking an undergraduate student studying Soil Science, Horticulture,  Agricultural Biology, Sustainable Agriculture, or a related field to join our team as an Intern, and be a part of a truly one-of-a-kind research opportunity and gain real-world experience in an entrepreneurial environment. The intern would be invited to provide exploratory and innovative guidance on how to best utilize the liquid fertilizer, which is a byproduct of the alkaline hydrolysis process.  We are committed to learning more about optimal applications for the fertilizer and are seeking curious and driven students with a passion for finding eco-friendly solutions to the problems that fuel climate change to help study this pioneering concept.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Analyze fertilizer sample lab results

  • Analyze soil sample lab results

  • Visit application sites including wildlife conservation partners to review the fertilizer application process and advise on operating procedures.

  • Provide general recommendations on optimal fertilizer application for best results for land vegetation

  • Water memorial trees

Project opportunities include:

  • Create standard operating procedures of fertilizer application

  • Create a presentation detailing the beneficial characteristics of the liquid fertilizer

  • Create a list of potential fertilizer recipients

The estimated commitment is 4-5 hours per week and will contain a blend of remote and on-site.

We are located in Denver at 2970 W Severn Pl with land partners across the Front Range.

The internship will begin May 1 and last through July 31 with opportunities to extend dependent on need and performance.

Compensation is $19 per hour.
