Richard “Brad” Mawhinney

September 16, 1980 ~ September 8, 2022

Richard "Brad" Mawhinney, 41, of Longmont, CO, left us too soon on September 08, 2022 due to injuries incurred during a motorcycle accident.

Brad was born on September 16, 1980 to Joy Burkhart and John Mawhinney in Tallahassee, FL. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1999, he went on to study environmental engineering in Florida, geography in Colorado, and then the Culinary Arts at the Culinary Institute of America.

After working in various fine dining institutions, he retired from the kitchen to use his expertise to freelance as a handyman, support facilities maintenance at a brewery, manage the warehouse and shipping at a baby gear organization, and run donation pickups for a materials conservation non-profit. After the pandemic hit, Brad spent his final years as a full time dad and loving husband, caretaking our family and devising the most admired "Daddy Adventure Days.”

Brad was known for his wide variety of talents and interests, including food, music, gardening and farming, camping, dogs, motorcycles, skipping the small talk, learning for the sake of learning, environmental stewardship, brewing, building anything, and crafting kids activities at the drop of a hat. He will be remembered for his love of helping others, ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere, and for his soulful eyes.

Brad is survived by his son Benjamin, wife Karen, brother Bryan Clark, mother Joy Burkhart, father John Mawhinney, and countless other family and friends. Brad was preceded in death by his brother Dustin Clark, and devoted grandparents Kathleen and Burrel Mawhinney.
