John Brooks Matteson

September 7, 1949 - June 3, 2023

John Brooks Matteson sadly died on June 3, 2023 during a rafting trip on the Rio Grande in NM. He was doing what he loved as a camp host near Taos, New Mexico.

A peaceful and gentle soul he cared about the conservation of nature and wildlife, animals and peace, and human rights.

He had an adventurous youth, was a providing family man and a free spirit who loved to make people laugh with his crazy antics. He had a lust for life and lived it like no other. He was doing what he loved as a campground host which he did every summer in the mountains of the Northwest.

Since retirement, he traveled the country in his camper visiting friends and family whom he loved dearly. A peaceful and gentle soul he cared about the conservation of nature and wildlife, animals and peace and freedom for all. He was 73 years old.

John spent 4 years in the Air Force from 1968 to 1972. He worked in jobs that required specific skills whether computer, electronics or working with his hands. John worked for Hewlett-Packard for many years.

John is survived by his sons, Christopher, Eric and Kelly Matteson and their mother Trisha Matteson who was a dear friend. Sisters, Donna Rae Goff, Susan Matteson and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was by Pre-deceased by his father Donald Matteson, mother, Mary Jane Matteson, Uncle John (Snuffy) Cuskey and Grandmother Mary Kathryn Cuskey.

John lived in many places including Easton, PA; Albuquerque, NM; Tuscon, AZ; Seattle, WA; Fort Collins, CO; Omaha, NE; Loveland, CO; and Boise, ID and in various campgrounds around the country.
