Jack S. Landau

August 4, 1929 - December 12, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Landau on Dec 12, 2023, with family by his side in his home in Denver, Colorado. Jack was an exceptional human being, friend to many, loving father and husband, and veteran of the Korean War.  Jack was a beloved soul who graced this world with his curious and learned self for 94 years.  Born on August 4,1929 in the Bronx, New York City, Jack’s life was a testament to his kindness, curiosity, quest to learn, and commitment to his family and friends. Jack graduated from Textile HS in New York City, earned a BA in History at New York University, served stateside in Army intelligence during the Korean War, and married Phyllis Goldstein in 1957. Jack and Phyllis raised a loving family which included 5 children born between 1960 and 1969.

In his 94 years, Jack witnessed and embraced a full life of working, enjoying family, learning, teaching and living life to the fullest until his last days. Whether working (until age 90), time with family and friends, or pursuing his hobbies,  his warm smile, laugh, long stories (especially history lectures), twinkle in his eye, and kindness touched the lives of all who were fortunate to know him, be it for minutes or years.

In his 94 years, Jack witnessed and embraced a life of change, adventure, adversity, navigating its challenges with grace and optimism.  He lived in New York City, Philadephia, Baltmore Maryland, Plainfield New Jersey, Buffalo Grove Illinois, Hershey and Washington PA, until his move to Denver in 2000 after the passing of his wife (Phyllis Landau). Jack was committed to social justice his entire life, and viewed the world through this lens.

Jack had many hobbies including fishing, dancing, reading, shooting, traveling, exercising, nature, horseback riding, drives in the mountains, poker with his buddies, and enjoying all kinds of music, especially jazz. His love of learning history and sharing that love and knowledge is something that all who knew him will remember.  His enthusiasm, kindness, and zest for life will resonate in the hearts of those he leaves behind, including his children, Ken Landau and Susan Oliver, Mike Landau, Marian Landau and Renee Williams, Ellie and Phil Bluestein, and Brian Landau and Claudio Diaz De Leon.

As we bid farewell to Jack Landau, we remember a life well lived, a legacy that endures, and a soul that has found eternal peace.  May his memory be a source of comfort and an inspiration to live to a life of kindness and curiosity to us all.
