Wayne Wilfred Aubert

May 17, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Aubert, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, at St. Joseph Hospital on May 17, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, of 52 years, son, Chris (Cinthya), daughter, Michelle (Ben), and grandchildren, Charlotte (Charlie), Michael, Isla, Olive, and Isabel. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Lillie, (Merlin),and a brother, Allen (Diane).

Wayne was born on Oct. 19, 1944, to the late Wilfred and LaVerle Aubert in Downey, CA, where his father worked in an airplane factory during World War II. Following the war, the family lived in several places, before eventually settling in Wagner, SD.

Wayne graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, with a degree in elementary education. One highlight of his teaching career was the five years he taught for the Department of Defense at Frankfurt Elementary School #1 in Frankfurt, Germany. During those years, he and Kathleen also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe.

Wayne was an active member of the Jaycees when he lived in Sisseton, and Watertown, SD. He was recognized for his dedication when he was named Watertown's 1972-73 "Outstanding Jaycee of the Year".

Wayne was a beloved member of the Schlessman YMCA Sudoku Club. Members frequently commented about how he always greeted them with his beautiful ear-to-ear smile; that he was always so eager to hear about everyone's families; and how proud he was to share stories and pictures of his family.

Music was also an important part of his life. He was a member of his church choir for many years. He also loved playing the guitar. In his later years, accompanied by his guitar, he enjoyed composing songs & singing them for the granddaughters.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.

Wayne will be deeply missed.
