Kristy Kay Smith

July 30, 2024

Kristy was born to Robert and Mary Lea Lindsay in Davenport, Iowa. She was raised there and went to Davenport Public schools. She continued her education at the University of Iowa where she got her BFA.

After both children were in elementary school, our family moved to Evanston, Illinois where she earned her MDiv at Seabury Western Theological Seminary. After serving several Episcopal parishes in Iowa, she returned to her passion, creating art for the rest of her life. She was a gifted abstract painter, working mainly in acrylics. Everyone knows that she was always trying other mediums with joy. She was a longtime member of Sync Gallery in Denver, and made many friends in the Denver art community.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years David, daughter Lindsay Smith of Minneapolis, MN and son Jacob Smith (Elisabeth Fenning) of Burbank, CA. She is also survived by her sister Teri Lindsay, and many nieces, nephews and families.

She was a force in all our lives and a champion of everyone she loved.

Donations

To honor Kristy’s memory, we’ve organized a scholarship fund with SYNC, to provide an opportunity for an artist that may not have been able to afford membership otherwise. If you’d like to donate, please follow this GoFundMe link.
